What is eSign?
eSignature technology (or eSign for short) is a very useful technology that can save time and resources compared to traditional signing of paper documents.
It is “a legal concept, much like its paper equivalent. Electronic signature captures one’s intent to be legally bound to an agreement through electronic documents or forms. Electronic signature laws and regulations vary from country to country, but most share the same basic principles around signing documents.”[1]
Because they are electronic in nature, and legally accepted in many instances, they can save your company a lot of time in getting sign-off on agreements, contracts, documents, invoices and more.
What is the difference between an Electronic Signature and a Digital Signature?
If you’re familiar with eSign, you may know there is more than one term being used to describe this technology. The terms Electronic Signature and Digital Signature are used most often, but they don’t mean exactly the same thing.
To clear up confusion, “an electronic signature refers to a protected and legally binding online signature. A digital signature refers to a complicated method for authenticating a document. For the most part, people are looking for an electronic signature when they’re searching for digital signatures.”[2] In other words, an electronic signature is the signature itself, while digital signature is the process going on behind the scenes to ensure the signature is secure and authentic.
For the purposes of this article, when we refer to eSign, we mean an electronic signature.
How can eSign help businesses?
An eSign app allows your business to quickly request and receive signatures for many common purposes. Below are some added benefits of eSign apps that can benefit your business.
A Plethora of Options
There are quite a few eSign apps out on the market today. At Positive Results™, we’re partnered with several companies that provide high quality eSignature options across a variety of applications.
Many of these eSign apps offer a similar feature-set, so we recommend doing your due diligence to determine which app will work best for your business. It may come down to your business requirements and where you rank certain features as a priority.
Zoho Sign
A must-have for anyone that utilizes the Zoho suite, Zoho Sign provides an easy, customizable and secure eSign option across the Zoho ecosystem and can also be connected into third party apps.

HelloSign
A powerful eSign app that has gained a lot of traction recently through partnerships and integrations with Salesforce, Google Docs, Gmail, Dropbox and more.
If you utilize some of these apps for your business, then HelloSign might be worth investigating.
Box Sign
A robust eSign technology that is currently in development and will be native to the Box (document collaboration) platform is Box Sign. It leverages an existing eSign technology from Sign Request (one of the leading eSignature development companies), which they are in the process of purchasing at the time this article was written.
Box Sign will be available for Box Business and Box Enterprise accounts once it releases.

Final Thoughts
Positive Results™ is a training development and cloud solutions company that works with businesses to analyze their business processes and implement solutions to resolve any gaps we find.
We believe that eSign technology can have a positive impact on most businesses because it saves time and money from being cloud-based, while providing a high level of security through military-grade encryption. It is also able to meet compliance standards and be legally binding in many cases.
With so many companies offering eSign options now, we recommend taking the time to determine which app makes the most sense for your business, but for any company that requires sign-offs or signatures on a regular basis, eSign technology is worth investigating.
